Since obtaining his contractor’s license on Christmas Eve of 2009, Jeff Anderson has been building homes and communities with passion and integrity. As the owner of JL Anderson Incorporated Construction and Consulting, Jeff specializes in new builds, modular construction, and renovations, serving clients across Idaho and Wyoming.
Jeff’s love for building began as a child, crafting treehouses and forts from spare lumber. After working his way up in the construction industry, he identified a gap in the market when modular assembly companies began to close. Seizing the opportunity, he launched his own company to provide high-quality residential construction services.
Like many business owners, Jeff has faced his share of challenges, from finding skilled employees to navigating a competitive market. “It’s getting harder to find people who are willing to work,” he admits. To address this, Jeff starts employees at $15/hour and adjusts their pay based on performance.
Another obstacle has been the slowdown in construction over the past few years, driven by rising costs and interest rates. Despite these hurdles, Jeff remains committed to his reputation for quality and honesty. “I’ve always played by the rules,” he says, emphasizing his adherence to legal and ethical standards.
Jeff’s greatest achievements go beyond the structures he builds—they lie in the communities he helps create. One of his most memorable projects was a 64-unit subdivision that transformed an empty field into a vibrant neighborhood for families.
His dedication extends to the people he serves. Jeff recalls a time when a young boy was injured near a job site. Jeff’s quick response and care left a lasting impression on the family, who later visited him with a heartfelt thank-you.
At 60 years old, Jeff is planning for retirement in the next 5–6 years. While he’s enjoyed the slower pace of late, he hopes to take on one or two more significant projects before winding down.
Jeff offers this advice to aspiring business owners: “Don’t listen to people who say you can’t do it. Take the chance, and even if you fail, try again.”
